Mail, meetings, minutes and management– better communication

with Adam Phelan

“It’s not what I said that I want, it’s what I meant to say.”

Relentless emails, meetings that waste time and written requests that never get approved make bureaucracies go round.

Learn how to structure correspondence that gets read and write requests that get approved.
Become a master of outcomes, not a manager of process.

Deliver meetings that have impact. This is a great course for those who want to improve their interaction with their peers and managers.

He specialises in corporate governance and has proven success in developing reports and communications for government, Boards and senior Executives.

His core competencies were gained in senior management roles at Airservices Australia. First, as the senior communications adviser to the Chief Executive Officer, Adam was accountable for the development and implementation of communications strategies, including speech writing, online social media campaigns and the preparation of responses to public issues.

He was subsequently promoted to the Chief of Staff, the chief strategic advisor and confidante of the Chief Executive Officer, primarily managing the interface with the Executive team and key external stakeholders including government, Defence, suppliers, customers and industry leaders. He specialised in crisis, reputation and issues management, and oversaw the delivery of key programs and strategic initiatives that delivered cultural and performance improvements across the organisation.

Prior to working at Airservices, Adam was selected as Australia’s representative to Civil Air Navigation Services Organisation, (CANSO), a global advocacy group based in Europe. In this role, he was accountable for promoting environmental best practice in the aviation sector, including leading a global team of environmental specialists to devise strategies and deliver a program of work to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across the industry.

Key achievements included the successful implementation of global media and communications strategies that involved the delivery of presentations and thought leadership campaigns to influence global policies and government decision making.
